As part of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Summer 2014 Congressional Internship Program, Professor Ricardo F. Vivancos Pérez lectured on "Latin@s, Gender and Sexuality in the 21st Century" on July 11th.
Drawing on U.S. Latin@ cultural analysis, and on the study of specific media representations and cultural expressions, Vivancos Pérez's talk focused on Latin@ gender and sexual identities in a historical context, and in relation to other identity markers such as race, class, age, and religion. A discussion followed, on how Latin@s and their families are changing their views on gender, sexuality, and love in the 21st century.
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute offers an award-winning Summer Congressional Internship Program that provides college students with a paid work placement in a Congressional Office or Federal Agency for eight weeks.
