Latinos and Their Views of Identity: When Labels Don’t Fit
The US government has been using the terms “Hispanic” and “Latino” for decades but a recent nationwide survey of Hispanic (Latin@) adults finds that these terms haven’t been fully embraced by the people they are meant to describe. In this presentation, Dr. Mark Hugo Lopez, Director of Hispanic Research at the Pew Center, discusses survey results on a wide range of issues related to identity, including the labels Hispanics use to self-identify, whether they consider themselves different form other Americans, and their attitudes towards English and Spanish.
