Jennifer Leeman, professor of Spanish linguistics in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, will spend the fall semester at the Universidad de Murcia in Spain, where she will lecture on topics in applied linguistics and sociolinguistics as well as aid in the supervision of doctoral students. She will also carry out a research project, an empirical study of language attitudes among international university students studying in Murcia.
Professor Jihye Moon has published her first volume of Topics in Korean Language and Culture as the leader author, which is designed to accommodate a wide range of courses and curricula existing for Korean programs today.
Lauren Saravia led a professional development session for her Spotsylvania County Public Schools colleagues titled "Supporting Students in Spanish Heritage Instruction." She covered topics such as the characteristics of heritage learners and the reasons that traditional Spanish classes fail to meet their needs.
