Sequence of Classes

The Basic Spanish Program offers a variety of face-to-face, synchronous virtual, and asynchronous course options for students. At the 100-level, students can take SPAN 101 (3 credits) followed by SPAN 102 (3 credits). Alternatively, for students who would like to complete the 100-level in one semester, there are two options. For students who have prior experience studying Spanish, SPAN 115 is a 3-credit review of Elementary Spanish (equivalent to the combination of SPAN 101 and SPAN 102). For students with no prior experience studying Spanish, SPAN 110 is an intensive 6-credit introduction to elementary Spanish  (equivalent to the combination of SPAN 101 and SPAN 102).

At the 200-level, the first class in the sequence is SPAN 201 (3 credits) and the final class is SPAN 212 (3 credits). SPAN 212 fulfills the foreign language requirement as well as the Mason Core Global Contexts requirement. For heritage students of Spanish, SPAN 215 (3 credits) fulfills the foreign language requirement. Please visit the Heritage Students tab for more information on this class.

The Coordinator of the Basic Spanish Program is Dr. Carrie Bonilla. Students should address questions about SPAN 101, 102, 110, 115, 201, or 212 to her. She can also provide advice about course placement.
