In this talk, Dr. María Luisa Parra will present the theoretical and pedagogical underpinnings of an advanced engaged scholarship Spanish course for college heritage learners. The course aims to provide students with ample opportunities to expand their linguistic repertoires and foster their critical social awareness through, both, learning in the classroom about the Latinx histories and experiences in the U.S. and engaging, through community service, with pressing social, civic and educational and health issues affecting their own Latinx communities.

Advance registration is required.
