What work are you doing now?

I have taught in many different schools and colleges and I am currently a Spanish teacher at an immersion school in Arlington County. I also work for George Mason’s Modern and Classical Languages Department as adjunct faculty teaching Spanish to undergraduate students. I have worked with children, young students and adults and I have enjoyed and valued each of these experiences.

What do you like about your career?

What I like the most about being a teacher is the opportunity I have to work and learn with students from a variety of backgrounds and culture, and to see how they use their own strengths and points of view to contribute in a diverse learning environment where they ultimately feel like “world citizens”. I can truly say I am happy to wake up every day, knowing that I am going to perform a job that allows me to help others achieve their goals and that at the same time, supports my endless and genuine desire for continuing preparing myself for the constant challenges live presents to us.

How did your degree prepare you for your career?

I earned two  Master’s degrees at George Mason: one in Linguistics and one in Foreign Languages with a concentration in Spanish/Bilingual-Multicultural Education. Both degrees and all the courses I took at Mason helped me become more disciplined, more interested in my own learning, more empathetic towards other people and more aware of student’s needs; but most of all, each of the professors I had the pleasure to meet taught me with action and not with words the value of honest collaboration and integrity.
